Although good oral hygiene can remove some surface stains, deeper stains require professional teeth whitening, whereby the internal parts of the tooth undergo a safe bleaching process.
You can choose between in-clinic tooth whitening, home whitening or a combination of both. One of our experienced dentists can advise you on which method would be most suitable for you.
In-clinic whitening: This involves the dentist applying protection to the soft tissues of the mouth and applying a whitening gel to the surfaces of the teeth before a heat diffuser is placed over the top. This gently heats the gel, accelerating its penetration into the enamel and removing the discolouration and stains as it passes through the tooth. This session takes 60 minutes.
Home whitening: This involves the dentist taking impressions to make custom made trays and providing gels to use in the comfort of your own home and at your own convenience. Normally the trays are placed for 30minutes each day or overnight for 2-3 weeks. This method penetrates deeper into the teeth to remove the darker more stubborn stains.
Combination whitening: This involves the in-clinic whitening to “jump start” the process, followed by home whitening to penetrate the darker layers.
The results of teeth whitening typically last up to 3 years, but even at that point your teeth will be considerably lighter than before treatment. Top ups can be carried out periodically using the custom made trays and applying gel.
No tooth enamel is removed or damaged during the process and as the procedure is painless, no injections are required.
