The Implant Process
Before implants can be placed you will have a consultation at Elmfield House Dental in Teddington to discuss your suitability for treatment, to explain the process with you and to answer any questions you may have.
Diagnostics like X-rays and scans are also used to check the health of the jawbone to see if you're a good candidate for the procedure.
When the implants are placed, a process called Osseointegration happens, where the jawbone and implant fuse together over a number of weeks or months. If the jawbone is not healthy enough it may be that you need preparatory procedures such as a bone graft in order to proceed, or we may need to suggest alternative tooth loss treatments to you. However, many patients are suitable without the need for any additional preparatory work.
Once a treatment plan has been agreed we will arrange separate visits to complete the treatment in different stages. This will include preparing the jawbone, placing the implants (1) and checking the implants for bonding (2). All of these stages use local anaesthetic along with sedation options for patients who may be particularly anxious. The final appointment will involve checking the implants have bonded, and then placing the natural looking crowns for a complete and effective tooth restoration (3+4).
