Patients may be uncomfortable visiting the dentist, but able to control their emotions enough to come and have the treatment they need with support from staff. In some instances, patients might just need a little help with certain treatments that are more invasive than others. However, some patients may find themselves experiencing real fear in relation to their dental visits, where they are more than anxious, and require prior planning and additional support with visits, along with sedation.
Unfortunately, some patients may have a complete phobia of the dentist where just visiting the dentist will be a big achievement and huge hurdle for them to overcome. In this instance, knowing sedation and support is available may help encourage a patient to pay a visit to the dentist and help overcome their fear. Helping phobic patients have a positive experience is a priority because it is possible to completely overcome phobia this way, leading to future visits being nothing more than a routine appointment.
